The symbols represent the various qualities that must be integrated to reach the key: the tree trunk, a solid foundation on which to stand; the bear, courage and connection with the surrounding environment; the deer, awareness that blossoms from primal instincts; and finally, the fish, something unexpected, at ease even outside its own environment and seeming to infuse the deer with a higher essence from elsewhere. The mushrooms that grow on the fish are the bridge between matter and spirit, initiatory allies in many shamanic cultures.
